THE WHO
My name is Elizabeth McGee. I am 24 years old as of this February, and I am married to the man of my dreams, Seth, and have a beautiful son, Joseph. I am from Alabama but now live in Kentucky while Seth is working on his Masters of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Prior to this season of life, I completed my Bachelors of Science in Early Childhood Education at Auburn University. Now that I am a mother, my current occupation is "stay-at-home mom."
I wear many hats: wife, mom, seminary wife, woman, friend, etc. These titles and the duties and privileges that come with them all have their place and value. What you really need to know about me, though, is that I am a Christian. I have been a Christian since September 2011, but I would argue God elected me before the foundation of the world. This identity, my relationship with God through Jesus with the help of the Holy Spirit, irrevocably shapes everything I do and all the "hats" I wear. I am a Christian wife, a Christian mom, and a Christian woman. I guess I'm also now a Christian blogger.
THE WHY
My husband has been telling me to start a blog basically since we got married. He knows I can write and that I have plenty of thoughts and opinions and stories to share. He values those things and thinks they're worth sharing with the world, particularly the church. But until now I have graciously declined his encouragements.
I hesitated for so long because blogging is inconvenient. It's tedious. It requires time and thought and skill that I'm frankly too lazy to commit to, and I do think of blogging as a commitment. Those things haven't changed, but my season of life has. I used to be remarkably busy with juggling school and marriage and pregnancy, which then became marriage and fresh motherhood (read: nursing 24/7 and not sleeping). But now that Joseph is older and takes long naps, I find myself with the gift of spare time.
Okay, so I have spare time... but, why does that necessitate blogging? Well, I have stuff to share. I have stories, thoughts, recipes, tips, and wisdom to impart. Despite my human flaws and incomplete knowledge and experience, I believe that God has given me (and continues to give me) these gifts along with the gift of communication skills so that I may do a service of love to my fellow sisters in Christ and, in doing so, help build up the body in wisdom and righteousness.
Sisters, we have a race to run. We have a kingdom to represent and a mission to move forward. So, here I am, humbly submitting to you a request to let me join hands with you to work together and love one another and sharpen one another.
"Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,"
Philippians 1:27, ESV
